App Subscription for Oculus Quest: Viveport Infinity Now Supports Oculus Quest via Oculus Link
Viveport Infinity now officially supports Oculus Quest.
This week saw HTC announce that its Viveport Infinity VR gaming subscription service would begin supporting the Oculus Quest headset via an Oculus Link Beta.
The Viveport Infinity platform is a system-agnostic virtual reality subscription service that offers VR users access to hundreds of games as well as apps for a monthly subscription fee of just $12.99. With the addition of Quest, Viveport Infinity now supports virtually every major VR headset including Oculus Rift and Rift S, Windows Mixed Reality headsets and Valve Index among others.
The Infinity subscription service is currently the best bargain virtual reality gaming subscription and offers players a very robust and diverse lineup of VR apps including Superhot VR, Arizona Sunshine and Fruit Ninja VR. It also has various premium virtual reality titles. However, some titles such as Beat Saber are not available on Infinity though if you have an Oculus Quest headset, then you probably already have the rhythm title.
With the launch of Oculus Link Beta, Quest owners can now access all those Viveport Infinity games that they wished they could access with their standalone virtual reality headsets. With Oculus Link, Quest owners can use a USB-C cable to tether their headsets to their PCs and play the Rift games. The Netflix-style Viveport Infinity subscription service offers a lot of these, giving Quest owners access to a vast library of content. Once a user signs up, they can try out the Infinity service for 14 days for free.
If you have an Oculus Quest headset, a PC that can run virtual reality software as well as the appropriate USB-C Oculus Link cable, then you simply have to sign up for the Viveport Infinity service free trial to get started.
Follow these instruction on how to use Oculus Quest headset with the Oculus Link cable:-
- Start by opening the Oculus desktop app. Ensure that the Quest firmware has been updated to the version 11.0 or greater.
- Head to the settings of the Oculus Desktop App. Go to Settings>General>Unknown Sources so as to activate the third-party sources.
- Under the “Beta Version”, activate “Public Test Channel”
- Finally, go to Devices on the menu bar and then select “Quest” as your new headset under the “Devices”
- Then connect the Oculus Quest headset to the VR-Ready PC via the Oculus Link USB-C cable.
- Click “Enable” in the Oculus Link prompt in the headset.
Once you are done with these steps, download and install the Viveport Infinity software and you are good to go. The Viveport Infinity is a subscription service and not a VR streaming platform so you have to download the games or apps that you wish to play with your Quest headset. There is plenty of content here to pick from so ensure you have sufficient space for these.
Start your Viveport, log in with your Infinity account and select “Featured for Oculus Rift” from the app filter. That’s it.
Oculus Quest on Viveport: No Cross-Buy Support
Apart from Oculus Quest, the Viveport subscription service also supports a constellation of other headsets including HTC Vive, HTC Vive Pro, HTC Vive Cosmos, Oculus Rift, Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality headsets.
Viveport Infinity gives you a great app selection for a fair monthly price. However, the package does not include some of the exclusive titles such as Stormland which are only available in the Oculus Store.
Nor will you derive the benefit of Oculus Quest’s cross-buy offerings such as The Climb where you only have to purchase an app once and then you can access it on both the standalone and PC-based Oculus Quest versions.
For VR enthusiasts, the Quest-Link connection offers a great combination. Get the convenience of the standalone Quest headset without forgoing the vast Rift library with the Viveport Infinity’s beat-deal-in VR platform.
