ARVORE’s ‘The Line’ Wins Primetime Emmy Award
One of the first virtual reality (VR) titles to offer native hand tracking for Oculus Quest, interactive experience The Line has just won another award. This time ARVORE’s heartwarming narrative has walked away with a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Programming.
The win marks the first time a Brazilian studio has won the award, adding to its growing roster which includes Best VR Immersive Experience for Interactive Content at the 2019 Venice International Film Festival and Best VR Immersive Award at the 2019 Kaohsiung Film Festival.
“I am at a loss for words on how to describe what it is like for all of the hard work that our amazing team put into The Line to be recognized with such a prestigious award as a Primetime Emmy,” said ARVORE CEO Ricardo Justus in a statement. “To receive this recognition, particularly in an innovation category, is truly an incredible achievement for us, which validates our dedication and our vision for the future of immersive technologies as a storytelling medium.”
An interactive VR love story, The Line tells the tale of two miniature dolls, Pedro and Rosa. Set within a scale model of 1940s São Paulo, you help the story along by pulling and twisting various knobs and levers as if you were playing with a model railway. The whole experience takes around 20 minutes.
“One of the most beautiful side effects of VR is bringing the body back to the centre of the experience,” The Line Director Ricardo Laganaro adds. “What we did with The Line was to use the body movement as a language device to create emotions inside of the story. When we use our whole body to not only interact with but also tell and listen to stories, we remember that we are human.”
