Bigscreen Beta Coming to PlayStation VR By Early 2020
The social VR app Bigscreen Beta already provides a vast cross-platform support. In its early days, the app enabled PC users to view their PC monitors in virtual reality but it has since grown across multiple platforms and now supports Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, the Windows Mixed Reality headset, Oculus Go, Oculus Quest along with the Samsung Gear VR. The only headset that has been missing from the lineup of the platforms it supports was the PlayStation VR. Now this, too, has been roped in.
Bigscreen confirmed on Twitter that it is currently working on a PlayStation VR version and that it plans to release it either late this year or in early 2020. The addition of the app to PSVR will be huge as it will now tie up every leading virtual reality headset in the market. The PSVR version will hopefully, also have all the social features as the other versions.

The PSVR support was first announced way back in 2017 with the launch originally slated for 2018 but this initial plan never materialized, probably due to the Bigscreen Beta features at the time. The app was originally developed as a remote desktop streaming app for streaming what was on the PC screen in virtual reality, usually within a massive virtual cinema screen. The original functionality enabled users to watch movies in an immersive VR environment or to play PC video games within a virtual movie theater or by the campfire. There was even the option to invite friends into the virtual space to enjoy the experience.
That initial setup changed with the launch of Bigscreen TV that gave users access to more than 50 channels that they could pick from in order to watch sports, anime, movies, news and much more. Every TV channel in Bigscreen TV can host social rooms in groups of up to 8 people. With Bigscreen TV, it makes even more sense to have the app provide PlayStation VR support as PSVR owners will now be able to access the massive Bigscreen TV catalogue with its numerous shows, just like PC VR and standalone headset owners.
Apart from the fixed streaming channels, Bigscreen TV will also offer users live events. This week, the app covered the SpaceX Falcon 9 Launch that saw thousands of fans tune in to watch. On 27th July, there was the Tomorrowland Music Festival and the F.Reality VR Podcast with Zimtok5, Nathie, VR Oasis and RowdyGuy.
The Bigscreen Beta app will be free on all the supported headsets.
