Build Your own VR Ride as RollerCoaster Tycoon Joyride Arrives on PlayStation VR
The Atari brand might be iconic, but it’s not the powerhouse it once was. The company dabbled in virtual reality (VR) back in the 90s with its console, the Atari Jaguar, which was a flop. Now, Atari is tackling VR again, this time coming at the technology from a purely software-based angle, launching RollerCoaster Tycoon Joyride for PlayStation VR in North America.
Having first revealed plans for the title back March, Atari decided to bring it much loved RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise to VR as rollercoaster experiences do fit well with the technology. Just like before you can build your own rides, but this time you can put on a PlayStation VR and enjoy your own creations – the VR-mode is optional.
Key features in RollerCoaster Tycoon Joyride include a complete freeform coaster builder, single-player and multiplayer modes – challenging friends to a build and ride in a couch multiplayer party, pre-built coasters for those that just want to enjoy the ride. To make the rides even more interactive riders have the ability to shoot down fast-moving targets.
“While we have a vast catalogue of fantastic and iconic games to choose from, we felt the fan-favorite RollerCoaster Tycoon series is ideal for Atari to make its entry into the exciting virtual reality space,” said Fred Chesnais, Chief Executive Officer of Atari in a statement. “Being able to design your ultimate roller coaster and then actually jump in and ride your own creation as well as sharing them via PlayStation Network is an electrifying experience that few will be able to resist.”
RollerCoaster Tycoon Joyride has been developed by Nvizzio Creations and can be downloaded now on PlayStation 4 for $29.99 USD. RollerCoaster Tycoon Joyride previously launched in Europe on 23rd October, retailing for £15.99 GBP. For further updates on Atari’s future VR plans, keep reading VRFocus.
