Farpoint Developer Impulse Gear Reappears After 2-Year Hiatus
Impulse Gear released its PlayStation VR exclusive Farpoint back in 2017 causing plenty of excitement, helped along by the fact that it was the first videogame bundled with the PlayStation Aim controller. The title saw a couple of free DLC releases – the Cryo Pack and the Versus Expansion Pack, then it all went quiet. The team recently resurfaced, confirming work on a new project was underway.
Impulse Gear dropped off the map in 2018, with no further updates on its blog or social media until this week. Acknowledging the hiatus, the studio began by saying: “It has been a while since you heard from us and now it’s finally time for an update.”
The blog post was short and sweet, simply teasing the fact that something is brewing: “We’ve been hard at work exploring the possibilities of VR, learning from our work on Farpoint, and building something special. We look forward to sharing more with you soon.” That could mean another shooter, refining those FPS talents further. And it’s likely to be multiplatform whatever it is, as the front page of the website clearly states the studio is: “now focused on developing original AAA game experiences on all platforms.”
Impulse Gear hasn’t purely been working on new content, the team moved to a new office in San Francisco and then like many companies had to readjust to a fully remote workplace.
Farpoint was one of PlayStation VR’s earliest premium shooters, a sci-fi adventure where players found themselves marooned on a hostile alien world. They need to navigate the dangerous terrain looking for survivors whilst fending off giant bug-like monsters. Made all the more fun with an Aim controller – here’s a list of all the other Aim compatible videogames.
More details regarding the new project are expected to be released in the next couple of months. When those arrive, VRFocus will let you know.
