Feel the Virtual World With the Dexmo Enterprise Edition Force Feedback Glove

The best ones help by triggering users natural senses, with touch being another important addition. Dexta Robotics has recently announced the launch of the Dexmo Enterprise Edition force feedback glove to achieve just that task.
Having unveiled the first prototype back in 2014, the new Dexmo Enterprise Edition glove provides both motion capture and force feedback capabilities, offering full-hand dexterity to perform real-life actions in a digital world. This means that users can feel virtual objects just like their real-life counterparts, including the size, shape and stiffness of said item.
“Its rotational sensors read hand movement and regenerate a detailed virtual hand model to keep it in perfect sync with the user’s hand motion, allowing users to use their hands virtually,” explains Juxue Tang, Dexta Robotics’ product engineer in a statement. “When interacting with virtual objects, our interaction engine computes the magnitude and vector of force and the force-feedback units apply force to user’s fingertips, which imitates the push-back you’d get from real objects.”
While controllers like Oculus Touch and Valve Index aim to provide a bridge between gaming controllers and data gloves, with buttons for gripping, triggers for shooting and so forth, for new users there’s always a period of adjustment. The Dexmo Enterprise Edition glove removes that learning period as everybody knows how to use their hands.
“To help it (VR) go mainstream, we try our best to create an interaction system that is ‘stupid easy’,” said Aler Gu, founder and CEO of Dexta Robotics. “ We eventually arrived at a dual-hand, highly immersive, low learning cost and lightweight portable force feedback glove Dexmo. We successfully packed five motors, 11 rotational sensors, a rechargeable battery, and a set of control systems into a unified body that weighs only 290g and works wirelessly.”
Supplied with its own SDK, LibDexmo, the Dexmo Enterprise Edition is compatible with Oculus headsets, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, HoloLens and other VR/AR solutions.
As the name suggests, the new Dexmo Enterprise Edition is solely focused on business use cases such as training or design, in fields like automotive, architecture, construction, aerospace, healthcare and more. But it’s not just enterprise use cases Dexta Robotics is interested in, with the company hoping to bring Dexmo to the consumer market eventually.
