Garuda Indonesia Launches In-Flight VR Entertainment
Indonesian national carrier Garuda Indonesia has partnered with the French-American immersive in-flight entertainment provider SkyLights which is known for leveraging virtual reality for premium passenger entertainment both in-flight and in the airport lounges. SkyLights’ virtual reality headset is currently poised to be a leading VR headset for Cinematic VR experience for airline passengers.
Garuda Indonesia will launch the premium in-flight VR entertainment system in its business class in a bid to elevate the flight experience for its premium passengers.
The cinematic VR deployment will be part of Garuda Indonesia’s ongoing “the new Flight Experience” marketing campaign which is aimed at improving and updating the airline’s range of in-flight amenities.
The in-flight VR entertainment system will enable Garuda’s passengers to access various box-office movies via an immersive wide-angle 180 to 360 degree screen. In a statement, the airline stated that it expects the new VR entertainment system to enhance the passenger experience on long-haul flights.
The airline’s in-flight VR entertainment option is the first of its kind in Asia Pacific to have been certified with an international flight safety approval. The airline has already received positive reviews from its customers following the deployment and plans to extend the trial period for the system to various of its domestic and international flights. The service will cover routes such as Jakarta to Singapore, Jakarta to Manado in North Sulawesi and Jakarta to Denpasar. The service will also be available on the Jakarta-Haneda, Tokyo route.
On top of the in-flight offering, the Indonesian airline is also planning to install the virtual reality entertainment system in its Executive Lounge in the Terminal 3 at the Soerkarno-Hatta International Airport.
