Get Creative in Angry Birds VR With the new Level Builder
When Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs arrived earlier this year Resolution Games and Rovio Entertainment proved that the addictive mobile gameplay could easily translate into virtual reality (VR). Yet it didn’t feel quite as endless as its phone-based cousin. That’s going to change today as a free update adds the much-anticipated Level Builder feature.
The level builder is unique to the VR experience as no previous Angry Birds videogame has featured the option. Using a spinnable circular table, players can use wood/ice/rock blocks to create all sorts of structures alongside various TNTs, fans, boulders, decoration blocks and more.
As well as the building materials, different pigs seen in the main levels can be placed inside/around each structure such as boss pigs. Players can also select which birds are available to slingshot at the structures and which teleportation points are available during construction. All levels are saved locally, appearing in their own custom level set to share with friends. Sharing online is slated to arrive next year.
“I think most of us have played a game and thought of something to push the creative envelope, like ‘I wish I could have an entire level of TNT!’,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games in a statement. “By launching our new level builder tool in Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs, fans now have the power of creation right at their fingertips. And, it’s just as intuitive and fun as building with blocks in your physical environment.”
“At a time when we’re celebrating 10 years since the release of the first Angry Birds mobile game, it’s awesome that fans can now create their own levels in VR,” said Sami Ronkainen, creative director of extended reality at Rovio Entertainment. “Over the years we’ve received a lot of fan requests for such a feature and look forward to seeing what cool creations they now create!”
VRFocus gave the original videogame a decent four-star review, saying: “Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs is Angry Birds just in VR, and that’s no bad thing, equally fun and frustrating as it ever was.”
