Hatsune Miku VR is Coming to PlayStation VR

Hatsune Miku was one of the best Japanese dancing characters and in 2018, the launch of Hatsune Miku VR saw the rhythm game come to PC VR through Steam, for both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets. This was followed by an Oculus Store launch just a few months ago. Now the game is set to launch on PlayStation VR according to an announcement made on Twitter by the developer Crypton Future Media last week.

Hatsune Miku is a rhythm action VR title which features a lot of Japanese pop songs and has the character Hatsune Miku who sings and dances on stage. The player has the melodies flying out of the speakers at the back of the stage for them to earn points in the rhythm game:

A demo of the game was showcased at the “VR Game Experience Corner” which took place at the Magical Mirai 2019 event in Osaka on August 10-11.

The original PC version of Hatsune Miku was launched via Steam in March last year. During the launch, the rhythm game had featured eight Hatsune Miku songs with each of the songs having two difficulty levels along with a dance choreography that was portrayed by Miku. The PC game is compatible with a number of VR platforms including HTC Vive, Oculus Rift as well the Valve Index. It is also available in 10 languages.

Sega is also creating a new game for the Nintendo Switch which will part of its Hatsune Miku: Project Diva series. This is one is dubbed Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Mega39 (the mega39 is pronounced as “megamix”). This new game is slated for a 2020 release, timed to celebrate the 10^th anniversary of the series.

The Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Future Tone DX game was released for PlayStation 4 November 2017. Then there is the Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone game for PS4 which launched in January 2017 in Europe and the Americas.

If the playlist of the PlayStation VR version of the game will be similar to that of the PC edition, then players will have 19 songs as well as two difficulty modes that they will be able to choose from. Hatsune Miku will also feature 7 dance stages that will go along with the songs. The videogame version of the game will also feature an advanced music video mode, enabling users to watch any song they wish to from multiple angles with a choice of outfits and stages. Hatsune Miku VR shouldn’t be confused with another game with a similar name, Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live. The latter is a free title and has been available on PlayStation VR from 2016. The latter still has the same high-energy and perpetually happy Hatsune Miku but its interactive element is slightly more restrictive. In it, the player is just a part of the audience and watches Hatsune sing and dance. However, there is still some interactive aspect in the Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live as the player holds a glow stick that they can wave in time with the singing. Players are subsequently transported on a stage for a one-on-one performance with Hatsune Miku as the intensity of the virtual crowd rises to its peak.

The date for the release of Hatsune Miku VR is yet to be announced.
