How to Customize the Appearance of Your Character in No Man’s Sky
With the Beyond Update, No Man’s Sky VR support is now live enabling the millions of players around the world to explore the vast universe with its trillions of planets and billions of stars inside a virtual reality headset.
One of the commonest issues that many players grapple with when starting out is how to customize the avatars and change their appearance. Thanks to the NEXT update, there is now a vast array of color combinations that you can use as well as pieces of suits to pick from. You can even customize your appearance and race. When it comes to customization, you also want to carefully select your starship as the game now allows you to fly in the third person.
The game does not initially show you how to go about this but customizing your character’s appearance is a fairly simple process in No Man’s Sky.
It is easy to customize your avatar in No Man’s Sky. The process is not only simple but also totally free. To proceed with the customization, you have to progress through the main story tutorial missions until you reach a point where your spaceship’s thrusters are active and you can take off from the starting planet. From there, you can proceed to your system’s space station which is in very close proximity. Once at the station, exit the ship and face the entrance to the space station. You can then proceed to the deck which is on your right.
Head to the far-left side of the deck and you should notice a circular pad terminal which you can interact with and use to transform your appearance. It’s a fairly simple process. You will not be able to see your avatar in No Man’s Sky VR except on this terminal. However, you will be able to see your hands but the other people will be able to see your full avatar in all its glory so it’s always a good idea to use it.
Also found on this deck is a galactic terminal for buying and selling goods. There are also various merchants whom you can talk to about the ship, suit, the multi-tool upgrades and much more. There is also the deck on the other side of the space station which has the NPCs ready to talk to you about their culture and teach you their dialect. You will also see the merchant stations for cartography along with the other missions.
Eventually, you will be able to unlock teleporters at every station on this deck that will enable you to travel between space stations and your bases in the No Man’s Sky VR game.
To summarize, simply follow the steps below and you will be designing your own character within a very short time:
- If you haven’t already, complete the initial tutorial section first.
- Go to a space station. You can head to any.
- After landing, proceed to the section located to the right of the ship
- You should notice a wall that is lined with merchants; walk past all of these to the end of the room
- You will notice a small circular platform, step into it to interact with the screen.
- Once you are, you can now customize the avatar features including its torso, race, helmet, boots, armor and the backpack.
- Changing the race of the avatar will also change other pieces of the gear
- All the available customization options can be accessed freely.
