It’s Fright Season as Oculus Begins Halloween Sale
What’s great about the Halloween season isn’t all the chocolates with green fillings, of the chance to dress up in ghoulish clothing – there are enough cosplay events for that. No, it’s all about the scary videogames that are either released or discounted to give yourself a few fights. This year is no different with Oculus getting things going with a Halloween sale today.
As anyone who has played a virtual reality (VR) horror title should know, VR is exceedingly good at scaring players and there are some decent videogames to choose from on the Oculus Store.
The best horror selection can be found for Oculus Rift/Rift S with loads of individual titles discounted – some up to a massive 92%. Two bundles are available offering group savings, the Monster Party Pack featuring Edge of Nowhere, Five Nights at Freddy’s VR, Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul and Wilson’s Heart. And then the Spooktacular Pack which has The Mage’s Tale, The Invisible Hours, Feral Rites and Audica. Then there are the Daily Deals currently starting with Red Matter and Moss – not sure the latter can be classed as a Halloween title?
As for current VR darling the Oculus Quest there are no discounts available due to the headset being only five months old. A Halloween Collection is listed with titles including The Exorcist: Legion VR, Face Your Fears II, Drop Dead: Dual Strike Edition and Death Horizon: Reloaded but they are normal price.
Standalone headset Oculus Go does have a few videogames in the sale, both singular and via the Spooktacular Pack. Death Horizon, Fear Incarnate, Dark Days and Dead Secret Circle are the only single ones with a little fright in them. For some reason, the Spooktacular Pack has Real VR Fishing, Esper 2, Art Plunge and Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs included, presumably if you’re scared of brightly coloured birds or deadly aquatic creature that’s after your sandwich.
In any case, it’s Halloween so enjoy some 2019 scares. The sale ends 31st October at 11:59pm PST. For more updates on the latest VR horror experiences across PC, standalone and console headsets, keep reading VRFocus.
