Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience Has Been Delayed by a Month
Earlier this month VRFocus reported that Square Enix planned to launch Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience for PlayStation VR on Christmas Day. Now it looks like that’s not the case, with the title now being delayed until the new year.
Square Enix has now decided to delay the launch of Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience until 18th January 2019, reports Gematsu, with no indication as to why the delay has happened so close to launch day.
As previously reported, Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience was to be released in two parts, the first on 25th December with the other taking place on 18th January. That first part will now be in January while the second instalment has simply been given a ‘Spring 2019’ window.
Exclusive to PlayStation VR, Kingdom Hearts: VR Experience isn’t a virtual reality (VR) videogame. Instead its a music video of sorts that looks back on the history of the ‘Kingdom Hearts‘ series. The 18th January release will feature content from the main story’s stages, while the second update will then fill in the rest, so all the stages will be available.
At present this delay will only concern Japanese consumers as Square Enix hasn’t confirmed whether Kingdom Hearts VR Experience will see a western release. The VR experience is a promotional tie-in to the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 3, which is due for release on 25th January 2019 in Japan for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and on 29th January 2019 elsewhere. The videogame is actually the tenth title in the series and arrives 12 years after Kingdom Hearts 2 was released.
Set after the events of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Kingdom Hearts 3 is an action role-playing game (RPG) where protagonist Sora is joined by Disney characters Donald Duck, Goofy, King Mickey, Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc., Tigger, Woody, Buzz Lightyear and many more in their search for the seven Guardians of Light. The last trailer for the title was released earlier this week, showcasing some epic battles with some of Disney most iconic character franchises.
Should there be any further announcements regarding Kingdom Hearts VR Experience in the next few weeks, VRFocus will let you know.
