Lynx R1 Headset Begins Shipping to Early Backers

The much-awaited Lynx R1 mixed reality headset has now begun shipping to early backers.

Lynx founder and boss Stan Larroque has also revealed that the Paris-based company is “ramping up the production” and that the company has already prepared a few hundred devices ready for shipment.

The mixed reality headset’s Kickstarter backers will receive their devices first. Experienced developers will also receive the Lynx R1 mixed reality headset much earlier to enable them to “showcase cool experiences” on the headset, the company stated in an update released in December 2022.

The first shipments of the mixed reality headset left the factory on December 9^th, meaning that a number of units have already been assembled and shipped. The company stated that these shipments will be “way more polished” than the devices it has been showcasing in events and tradeshows over the years. However, the headsets being shipped at the moment will not feature the same color as the final version. The Lynx R1 headsets being shipped at the moment will also come with an immersive virtual reality interface.

Lynx has grappled with continuous delays and postponements as a result of supply chain issues that affected the wider industry following the pandemic. It was initially funded in November 2021 and shipping was expected as early as February 2022. Larroque has stated that he is expecting the fulfillment of the Kickstarter orders for the headsets to run between March and April 2023.

The Lynx R1 mixed reality headset features a battery positioned at the back for good balance. It also has color passthrough along with built-in hand tracking. The headset designers built their own controllers and are expecting to showcase some “working prototypes” of these by the end of Q1. The company is planning to ship the first units of these controllers by the end of June.

There is likely to be something on the Lynx R1 headset at the CES in Las Vegas later in the week. Keep here for additional coverage as the shipments roll out.
