Major SideQuest Update Adds News Feed, Improved Search & More
While the Oculus Store has its curated selection of titles, if you’re looking for a wider selection of videogames then SideQuest is your best bet; a popular repository of early content. Today, SideQuest has seen a big overhaul of its features, improving current ones whilst adding new options.
First up, regular SideQuest users will notice a new look to the site, making it easier to navigate and find content. That ability to search for the latest VR titles has been overhauled so Staff Picks, Hot & Fresh, Latest Apps & Games are all one one universal page. Seven new categories have also been added including Early Access, Escape, Flying, Meditation, Multiplayer, Racing and Story.
To keep everyone updated on the latest SideQuest news and info from developers the News Feed has officially launched into beta. “You will see news and event posts from developers and their communities for apps in your library/wishlist. You can also get involved too! You can submit posts & events to some app pages to get involved in the community. Keep the conversation going in the comment feed on the posts’ page. Share the post on social media to get the word out,” notes the team on Reddit.
Continuing the ease of use improvements it’s now going to be simpler to access PC versions of the videogames with support for desktop apps included in listings. Currently in beta, the feature only works for Windows via the website, with desktop launcher support coming soon.
A dedicated filter to highlight WebXR, Oculus Link and Go titles has been added, plus SideQuest is opening up its source code again having previously discontinuing Open Source repository updates order to combat piracy.
SideQuest has been popular with developers who haven’t been able to get on the Oculus Store for various reasons. Facebook did announce back in June that from next year it would be making it easier for devs to distribute their apps. Yesterday, however, the company did announce a raft of changes to the login system where you will eventually need a Facebook account; which didn’t go down well. As further updates to SideQuest are announced, VRFocus will let you know.
