Meta Avatars SDK Update Adds Better Graphics and Legs
The Meta Avatars SDK which has been available for quite some time now features legs.
Over the past few years, Meta legless avatars have been lampooned in various quarters including on tech circles and social media chatter with many finding their upper-body-only appearance amusing.
Meta incorporated legs into the Meta Avatars in the Quest Home environment in August this year. In September, the avatar legs appeared in Meta’s Horizon Worlds metaverse environment. However, the legs have been lacking in the publicly available Meta Avatars SDK used widely by third-party apps like Eleven Table Tennis and GOLF+. The SDK has now been updated to include legs.
The version 24 update is the first Meta Avatars SDK release to appear in close to six months. Apart from adding legs to the now familiar legless avatars, the update also comes with better graphical quality for the avatars. The SDK will also be available on the Unity Asset Store from now on.
The graphical improvements feature “more lifelike eye glints” along with “more detailed hair and clothing with normal map textures”. Also, due to new optimizations like Compute Skinner. Meta is claiming that the new improvements to the Meta Avatars have been realized without any performance cost.
After the holidays, expect developers to take advantage of the new update and add legs to their VR games.
