Microsoft Partners With Unity On HoloLens 2 Development Edition
The developer-focused release includes $500 in free Azure credits, 3-month free trials of Unity Pro.
Following the announcement of the Microsoft HoloLens 2, Unity has revealed a new partnership with the US-based multinational technology company to release a developer-focused version of the upcoming mixed reality headset.
The Microsoft HoloLens 2 Developer Edition will include the latest HoloLens headset alongside $500 in free Azure credits plus a three-month trial of both Unity Pro and PiXYZ plugin. Normally available for $125 per month, Unity Pro offers a wide variety of additional benefits the popular game development software aimed at providing support to professional teams and developers.
When paired with the PiXYZ plugin, this setup allows users to import and tessellate CAD (Computer Aided Drawing) files and BIM (Building Information Management) design data directly in Unity3D. The result is not only a much smoother mixed reality development process, but a noticeable reduction in overall costs as well.
“Pairing HoloLens 2 with Unity’s real-time 3D platform enables industrial businesses to create immersive, interactive experiences that accelerate business and reduce costs,” said Tim McDonough, GM of Industrial, Unity, in an official release. “The addition of Unity Pro and the PiXYZ Plugin makes it easy to import 3D design data in minutes rather than hours.”
Microsoft HoloLens 2 Development Edition will launch later this year for $3500 (the same as the upcoming standard edition) or $99 per month if you’re enrolled in Microsoft’s Mixed Reality Developer Program.
Developer members receive the latest updates regarding news and product availability; registration is 100% free. The HoloLens 2 will be available exclusively through Microsoft. The Developer Edition will not be available for pre-order.
