Minecraft PSVR Support Comes this Month
The cult sandbox game that appeared on almost all video game platforms and sold over 200 million copies is finally making way to PlayStation VR this month.
Mojang is planning to release free patch for the PS4 version that will have a VR mode later this month. The content of the VR version of Minecraft doesn’t differ from the original. The difference is in the platform itself. In VR, you are now seeing the blocks through your virtual reality headsets and have the immersive feeling of being in the middle of it all.
On PlayStation Blog, Mojang stated that Minecraft PSVR support has been requested and discussed a lot among the Minecraft PlayStation Community. Mojang stated that PSVR support had been planned PS4 feature ever since the studio got the go ahead from Sony to implement cross platform play as well as the Bedrock version to PlayStation 4. From that date, according to Mojang, it was only a question of when PSVR support would be launched.
Mojang stated that once it had polished the experience, the PSVR support for Minecraft would arrive via a patch for the main Minecraft game. Anyone who already has Minecraft on PlayStation 4 will receive the patch automatically. Once they get it, they should download it to get access to the new Minecraft VR functionality. Users will need to do PSVR set up to use it.
The virtual reality mode is also coming with new settings along with guidance that players can use to tweak their VR experience to their needs. When playing, players will be able to choose between two perspectives: A Living Room mode and an Immersive mode. Both modes are great but it will be up to the user to choose what suits them best.
Players will still need to use their DualShock 4 controllers in order to move around the game and do all the crafting as well as the fighty things in the Minecraft world but they will be fully immersed in Minecraft. Mojang promises that the experience will be an incredible one in the immersive mode.
In the Immersive mode, players are immersed right in the midst of the Minecraft world. In the Living Room mode, they sit on a virtual coach and play Minecraft in 2D on a large TV. These modes already worked in the VR ports of the game for Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift (S) from 2016, on which the PSVR version of the game is technically based.
The Living Room mode is intended for VR players who find the artificial locomotion in the Immersive mode difficult to digest. The game is played using the DualShock 4 controller.
Sony made the announcement during the PSVR Spotlight this week. From Monday to Friday, Sony has been presenting upcoming PSVR titles in more detail and making announcements about the virtual reality games that have already been revealed.
A PSVR sale also began on Wednesday September 9th this week. There are lots of major hits among the discounted titles such as Blood & Truth, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Tetris Effect and Farpoint.
