Mojo Vision announces breakthrough in ‘invisible computing’ smart contact lenses

California-based startup Mojo Vision is developing a smart contact lens that will have an inbuilt display in what the company is describing as ‘the world’s first true smart contact lens.’
The Mojo Lens provides users with an eyes-up experience known as invisible computing whereby the information is accessed without looking down at a screen or losing focus on surrounding objects.
The invisible computing platform, which allows information to be prompt, unobtrusive and available hands-free, help people to interact with each other more freely. The Saratoga-based AR technology developer has been involved in the research and development of the AR lens and holds patents that are nearly a decade old and important to the development of the smart contact lens.
Mojo is currently demonstrating a working prototype of its Mojo Lens and is part of clinical trials for R&D iteration purposes under an institutional review board approval. Once the final product is out in the market, it would be useful from the basic consumer to an enterprise customer.
“Mojo has a vision for invisible computing where you have the information you want when you want it and are not bombarded or distracted by data when you don’t,” said Drew Perkins, CEO at Mojo Vision. “The technology should be helpful, and it should be available in the moment and fade away when you want to focus on the world around you.”
Last December, CCS Insight’s report had predicted that China would play a key role in the growth of the VR market, as an initiative taken by its government to become a global leader in AR/VR by 2025 will have a major impact in the coming future. Another important sector where the adoption of VR is being targeted is education. CCS Insight predicted that extended reality will become a standard educational tool in schools in minimum two countries by 2025.
