More Beat Saber Tunes Coming Next Month on Oculus Quest
The virtual reality hit game Beat Saber came out of the early access last week, and added sets of new features including support for Oculus Quest and a Level Editor for PC. However, the Quest version of the hit VR game did not have a custom level support and the VR community which has been forced to rely on unofficial mods has been quite outspoken about this. The game studio Beat Games seems to have listened and it has now confirmed the incorporation of a Custom Level support for the game which will be available in future updates.
The feature was already available on PC, enabling players to easily gain access to user-created mods and infinitely increase the number of playable tracks. With the new official Level Editor for Oculus Quest, Beat Saber will have a new custom beatmap builder that will support Oculus Quest, enabling users create their own maps using their own music.
In a tweet released yesterday, the studio stated that it will include the ability to add new custom levels in one of its future updates. Beat Games says that it is currently working on this and no concrete launch date has been provided yet.
#OculusQuest: We’re adding support for Custom Levels for Quest to one of the future updates! You will be able to create Custom Levels in our Level Editor on PC. ✌️

Beat Games has also stated that Quest users will be able to create custom levels by making use of a PC-based level editor. This could be the same level editor that Beat Games incorporated in its PC VR client and is a 2D software that enables users to create maps outside the virtual reality headset by making use of their own music.
For Oculus Quest owners, this will indeed be some great news as the update will dramatically increase the number of tracks that will be available on the headset. Since the update is also official, users won’t have to grapple with the breakages currently experienced with the modded version.
No Custom Level Support for PSVR
The Custom Level will however not be available to PlayStation VR owners as the closed nature of the PlayStation Platform makes it impossible for Beat Games to incorporate the Custom Level support for the PSVR console.
Beat Games has also confirmed that the next Music Pack will be launching on 10th June. While the studio is yet to divulge the details of the tracks that will be included on the upcoming Music Pack, it teased some blocky image. It’s also not clear how diverse the music genres in the tracks will be.
In the absence of Custom Level support, users have been relying on unofficial modders to port the custom beatmaps to the Oculus Quest version. It’s been a homegrown solution due to the lack of support albeit one that was often fraught with breakages. Now Beat Games is being more proactive in owning the process and providing a seamless custom level support.
This is a good move from a platform perspective. Unlike Sony which has locked its PSVR platform, Oculus hasn’t been quite as cagey which allowed Beat Games to bring the official level editor to the platform. Players on Quest will now be able to bring their own music to the platform without relying on unofficial mods.
