New PlayStation VR Mega Pack Revealed for Europe, Available Autumn
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) loves to promote its PlayStation VR virtual reality (VR) headset around the festive season with a nice Mega Pack. This is a bundle featuring five popular experiences, the PlayStation Camera and of course the headset. Today, the latest European Mega Pack has been revealed with a couple of videogame alterations.
The 2018 Mega Pack included Astro Bot Rescue Mission, WipEout Omega Collection, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, Doom VFR, and PlayStation VR Worlds. Not much has changed for the 2019 edition, with WipEout Omega Collection and Doom VFR removed, replaced by Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and Everybody’s Golf VR.
While that’s a nice tidy lineup of excellent VR experiences it’s a bit of shame SIE didn’t shake things up a little more with the variety – it’s not as though PlayStation VR is lacking in videogames. PlayStation VR Worlds is always going to make an appearance but ideas and processes have moved on since 2016 (the headset has so much to offer). It’s a shame more indie titles haven’t been promoted.
In any case, the biggest ommission is the PlayStation Move controllers which are almost essential for most PlayStation VR titles. Having the motion controls also helps to aid immersion, the rest of the VR industry has moved away from standard controllers now. So it’s worth factoring in the cost of PlayStation Move (around £60-£70 GBP) to get the best out of Everybody’s Golf VR for example.
The 2019 VR Mega Pack is priced at £299.99 and will be available from 4th October 2019. Amazon.co.uk has begun taking pre-orders.
Yesterday, SIE announced the next State of Play broadcast would be taking place on Tuesday 24th September, with a big 20-minute programme of announcements planned. There’s been no mention of PlayStation VR so hopefully, there will be some surprises in store.
VRFocus will continue its coverage for PlayStation VR, letting you know if a North American pack comes along.
