Oculus Quest 2 Pre-orders: Where, How & the Backlog
It’s been over a week since Facebook Connect and the official unveiling of Oculus Connect 2. Pre-orders launched the same day at select retail locations as well as Oculus.com, with shipments beginning 13th October. However, depending on where you are in the world and how fast you were may mean you’ll have to wait a little longer.
This festive season is all about gaming hardware, whether you’re after the latest console generation in the form of PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, or want an improve virtual reality (VR) experience from Facebook. The new Oculus Quest 2 is smaller, lighter, has more power and will now be the de facto headset for the company going forward.
Two models are available, differentiated by storage size, the 64GB version for £299/$399 whilst the 256GB version retails for £399/$399. Now depending on there will be various avenues to pre-order the new headset, the main one being the Oculus website. But the site does highlight how strong demand has been for Oculus Quest 2, with some countries experiencing significant backlogs.
Here in the UK, it’s not that bad for the 64GB model with deliveries estimated for 20th October. That does increase for the 256GB version with a three-week wait until 3rd November. Retailers like Currys, Amazon and OverclockersUK still have the original release date at the moment.
As for the rest of the world shipping dates from Oculus do vary but they aren’t too bad, the worst affect countries being the US (3rd November for both versions) and Canada (11th November for both versions). Again, places like Amazon, Best Buy or Walmart may offer a quicker solution for North American customers. All the rest are during October apart from Germany and South Korea where pre-orders are unavailable.
It’s a similar scenario for the official accessories like the Elite Strap or the Elite Strap with Battery and Carry Case, both options exceeding a two-week wait.
At the entry price of £299/$299, it’s not surprising, even with the need for a Facebook account. There are plenty of exciting videogames coming to the platform such as The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, Population: One, Blaston, Little Witch Academia: VR Broom Racing, Rez Infinite, The Climb 2, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, Myst and Warhammer 40,000: Battle Sister.
