Oculus Quest Headsets Have Already Sold Out in Leading Retail Shops
The Oculus Quest headset has been a huge hit with many early adopters and the huge demand for the headsets has now created inventory shortages with many of the leading retailers. Just one week after its launch, it was already sold out in major retail stores such as Newegg, Walmart and Amazon by Tuesday.

In a recent statement, Facebook has stated that it is working on restoring the availability of the headsets in all the distribution channels “as soon as possible”. However, buyers can still purchase the device from the Oculus.com website as well from various other stores around the world where it is still available.
On Newegg, both versions -the 64GB and the 128GB versions- were out of stock on Tuesday. The 64GB version was “temporarily” out of stock on Amazon although the retail giant promised that it would ship out the 128GB version within 1 to 2 months. On Walmart, both models were listed as unavailable for online orders and in-store pick-up.
Best Buy, on the other hand, promised that it would ship the headsets within a duration of one week. However, the retailer admitted that it did not have any in-store inventory within 250 miles of the San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles.
However, the inventory shortage issues seem not to have affected the Oculus.com website with information on the site stating that orders for both models would be shipped by early June.
The early inventory issues are no doubt going to have an impact on the absolute Oculus Quest sales numbers. It is possible that some of the retailers facing the shortages may have underestimated the scale of the consumer demand for the device after seeing a low demand for the previous releases. It is also possible that the demand has simply defied even the most optimistic expectations.
The high early demand might also have been driven by the early adopter trend whereby the early virtual reality adopters are rushing to grab their Oculus Quest headsets. Sales for the device will likely hit a high during the holiday shopping season.
