Our First Look At Magic Leap’s Experimental Spatial Computing AR Experience
Undersea turns your living room into a dynamically generated coral reef biome.
Undersea, a new spatial computing AR experience developed for the Magic Leap One headset, is set to premiere next week at the 46th annual SIGGRAPH computer graphics conference in Los Angeles.
Available for demo July 28th – August 1st at the Immersive Pavilion, Undersea harnesses the power of the Magic Leap One, as well as Unreal Engine 4 and Vulcan 3.1 mobile, to transport users to a photorealistic undersea environment featuring life-like animated sea life inside a dynamically generated coral reef biome.
“‘Undersea’ brings a room to life with breathtaking underwater landscapes in an interactive reef experience, and allows us to focus on pushing the boundaries of graphic fidelity within Spatial Computing,” said Dan Lehrich, VP of Production at Magic Leap, in an official release.

Much-like previous Magic Leap experiences, such as the sci-fi shoot-em-up Dr. Grordbort’s Invaders, Undersea makes use of the headsets spatial computing technology to deliver an engrossing and immersive experience that works in tandem with the physical environment.
Francisco Cortina, CG Supervisor, and Derrick Levy, Lead Software Engineer, will be conducting a panel on Undersea during SIGGRAPH’s Experience Presentation “Be Productive in New Ways” August 1st.
Magic Leap’s reveal of Undersea will be joined by three other world premiers taking place during the conference, including Disney’s latest VR short film, a kite’s tale, II Divino: Michelangelo’s Sistine Ceiling in VR by Epic Games, and Mary and the Monster: Chapter One from Parallux and New York University’s Future Reality Lab.
44 other immersive experiences will also be present throughout both the Immersive Pavilion and VR Cinema.
