Laugh all you want at the term “tactical kayak,” nDream’s upcoming stealth-based VR shooter just took home the award for Best VR/AR Game at this years E3 Game Critics Awards, beating out an extensive lineup of impressive immersive experiences showcased during the infamous three-day event.
Tasked with saving the world from an all-out war with a merciless enemy force, Phantom: Covert Ops has players step into the shoes of a Phantom, an elite special forces operative, and complete a series of stealth-based missions across hostile wetlands over the course of a single chaotic night.
Taking place entirely from a tactical kayak, players can row freely throughout large, open locations and approach missions any way they choose. By quietly paddling through thick bushes of reeds and hiding beneath walkways, players can stealthily take out enemies in a variety of ways using a healthy assortment of military-grade weaponry, from silenced pistols, to long-range sniper rifles.
Dispatched into remote, hostile wetlands in your tactical kayak, utilize military-grade weapons and equipment to evade and neutralize the enemy threat. Immerse yourself in a gritty and authentic arena of war across an intense campaign in VR. Phantom: Covert Ops was up against a heavy lineup of AAA immersive content present at this year’s expo, including Sanzaru Games’ highly-anticipated RPG Viking epic, Asgard’s Wrath, Ready at Dawn’s intergalactic drama, Lone Echo II, Just Add Water’s WWII shooter, Sniper Elite VR, and Microsoft’s incredible-looking location-based AR Minecraft app, Minecraft Earth. Phantom: Covert Ops launches on Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift/Rift S sometime later this year.
