At the end of August inXile Entertainment held a closed beta to test its upcoming multiplayer shooter Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds. Today, the studio has announced it’ll be holding an open beta next week and if you participate then there’s a chance to earn a free copy of the final videogame.
The offer is part of inXile Entertainment’s ‘Play to Own’ Campaign where players have to meet specific milestones while playing the open beta. All you have to do is play 10 matches within a week, with the first 3000 players awarded a free key. The beta runs from 28th September to 19th October 2020, available for PC VR owners on Steam and Oculus platforms. To participate register your details here.
Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds‘ closed beta offered the first chance for players to test a wide variety of the titles realistic pistols and rifles. In a press statement regarding the open beta the studio confirms: “During the open beta test, players will be able to engage with more weapons and tools to round out their arsenal, new enemies, two new maps and a new game mode (‘Attack and Defend’) that will be released later in the beta.”
Scheduled for a 2020 launch for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index, Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds is currently a purely team-based multiplayer FPS with one slight twist, human players aren’t the only opponents to watch out for. While the guns might be realistic, the sci-fi element adds terrifying biomechanical creatures dubbed ‘The Function’.
Matches will be big with two teams of ten going head-to-head, completing objectives all set in an abandoned Antarctica military base. The final version of Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds won’t be purely multiplayer as inXile Entertainment confirmed in an interview with VRFocus, that there will be a solo mode using bots so players can test the various weapons and locations.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds, reporting back with further updates as the open beta gets underway.
