PUMA Releases Metaverse-Exclusive NFTs Ahead of New York Fashion Week
There is a growing number of fashion and apparel brands embracing the metaverse. The metaverse, through technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality, lends itself more easily to the fashion industry. Applications range from virtual try-on to digital clothing for virtual avatars. Top footwear brands have already taken the plunge into the metaverse, including Nike, Adidas, and Prada.
With the exponential growth of nonfungible tokens, we are also seeing more fashion brands converting their unique designs into NFTs and floating these NFT marketplaces.
The German footwear brand Puma is the latest entrant into the metaverse buzz. The company has launched a metaverse website experience known as Black Station.
The Puma digital experience was launched at the New York Fashion Week. The digital experience features exclusive NFTs that launch with limited-edition redeemable sneakers. These will form part of its ‘FUTROGRADE’ SHOW.
Puma’s immersive and interactive website enables consumers to immerse themselves into its future and experience its web3 activations for a period of one year and beyond.
According to the footwear brand’s Chief Brand Officer Adam Petrick, Black Station was the company’s home for its most innovative designs.
Petrick says that because the company was pushing the boundaries in its work, from a product design and digital standpoint, it made sense to revive Black Station and use it as its new portal for digital exploration in various areas including fashion, heritage classics, sports performance, and innovation.
From September 7th, Black Station’s first two portals will showcase exclusive and never-seen-before Nitro Fastroid and Nitro NFRNO sneakers. Both of these sneakers are tethered to Puma’s NFT NitroPass mint.
When a Nitropass is minted, owners gain access to dual NFTs. One of the NFTs is linked to physical products and the other provides access to a customized experience that is linked to the shoe they pick.
After the conclusion of the Futuregrade shoe, minters can get their real physical kicks by burning their respective product-claimed NFT. PUMA says the NFT-linked shoes were designed liberally. The company says it gave its designers wide latitude where the sky was the limit and where its designers were able to harness their creativity without being constrained by the typical confines and limitations of the conventional shoe production process.
