Resolution Games Sees Boost in Sales After Quest 2 Launch
Resolution Games saw a 500% boost in the downloads of its titles following the launch of the Oculus Quest 2 in late 2020. These include titles such as Acron, Angry Birds VR, Blaston, Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale and Bait!
The studio made the announcement yesterday following a series of Facebook announcements on the performance of the new standalone VR headset. This is coming on top of the news that more than 60 Quest apps have now surpassed the million mark in revenues while Beat Saber has now crossed the 4 million mark on all VR platforms. Facebook is also set to roll out its long anticipated non-store distribution format that is dubbed App Lab. This will make it easier for developers to release content on Quest even if the title is in Early Access or unfinished.
Resolution Game Sales After Release of Quest 2
You can see the massive spike in Resolution Games sales in the recent weeks relative to historical sales over the past few years in the chart above. The vertical axis of the chart is blank so it isn’t clear how much revenues these games are grossing but the chart still shows that there was a massive spike in new sales for all their games late last year.
Resolution Games also says its free-to-download fishing game that features microtransactions Bait! has been downloaded 4 million times across all platforms.
Resolution Games hasn’t released many new games lately so the spike in the chart must simply reflect the fact that many users purchased the Oculus Quest 2 headsets.
This has been apparent for quite some time but we are now seeing the Quest 2 performance translating into direct sales and more revenues for developers and this is important for the future growth and long-term viability of the platform. Other developers have also seen similar spikes in revenues following the Quest 2 launch.
In a statement, Resolution Games CEO Tommy Palm stated that the studio is seeing its titles hit “significant revenue milestones” faster than ever before and that the studio confidently believes “that the current headsets are contributing to it.” According to Palm, developers now have a good reason to continue developing VR content that the more mainstream gamer are more familiar with in order to bring in the broader audiences to VR.
Resolution Games confirmed to UploadVR that its January sales had surpassed its December sales, which is another good sign!
