Sci-Fi Shooter Scraper: Gauntlet Will be a Pre-Christmas Release
There are plenty of virtual reality (VR) titles coming out over the next month to keep gamers entertained over the festive period. One of those will be Labrodex Studios’ latest Scraper: Gauntlet, with the studio more of the storyline behind this single-player videogame as well as when it’s arriving.
Scraper: Gauntlet is a first-person shooter (FPS) with wave shooter gameplay focused around heavy weapon modification and customisation. Several weeks ago the studio released new artwork detailing the hub where all players start their journey.
Highlighting the story behind this adventure, Labrodex Studios explain:
“Scraper: Gauntlet takes place concurrently with Scraper: First Strike, which occurs after the events of the tie-in novel, Scraper: The Rise of Cifer. As Casey Maxwell, the protagonist of First Strike, is trying to free New Austin from the evil Cifer’s clutches; Dr. Bhandari, the AI scientist responsible for Cifer’s creation, is trying to salvage any useful weaponry she can without tipping any robots off to the current operative’s location. She created the Gauntlet, also known as the Tri-Weapon System (T.W.S.) and the main item in the game, in case of a seemingly impossible robot rebellion. After the very real robot uprising, Dr. Bhandari was left feeling incredibly guilty about Cifer’s inexplicable attitude change and its effects on all of humanity. She hopes that in creating and dispersing the Gauntlet to those who need it among the surviving humans, that she redeems herself somewhat from her horrible mistake.”
“With Scraper: Gauntlet, we wanted the story to exist in the same universe, but with new interactions from characters and with more of a focus on weapon capabilities,” Project Manager Andrew Hurley explains in a statement. “You might remember Dr. Bhandari from Scraper: First Strike, but she only shows up at the end of the game for a few minutes. We wanted to expand on her role and give her an important connection to the story of this game that explains why she wasn’t too present in the first game.”
Labrodex Studios will be releasing Scraper: Gauntlet for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality headsets on 20th December. No price details are available at the moment. The studio also plans on releasing further details on the combat and weapon modification ahead of launch. As those details are released, VRFocus will keep you updated.
