Siemens’ latest version of Solid Edge CAD software features AR and 2D nesting among other tools
Siemens Digital Industries Software has announced the availability of a new version of its Solid Edge CAD software featuring augmented reality (AR) among other new options.
Dubbed as Solid Edge 2020, the newer edition of the CAD software will help the small and medium-sized manufacturers expedite their product development and manufacturing process.
The Solid Edge 2020 software, which has also added expanded validation tools, model-based definition and 2D Nesting, allows next-generation technologies to enhance collaboration and fully digitalise the entire design-to-manufacturing process. The software is also able to deliver hundreds of core CAD enhancements like new sheet metal capabilities, 3-10x faster large assembly performance, new data migration tools, and others across the portfolio.
Daniel Froehlich, PLM Business Manager, Standardisation Department for Eagle Burgmann, said: “The new Model Based Definition offering for Solid Edge 2020 is exactly what we need. Not only will it help us go paperless, it’s a huge step toward moving to a completely digital environment. Using our digital model to create 3D PDFs will let us share our designs without having to create extra drawings.”
A study, titled State of Industrial Innovation, conducted by computer software and services firm PTC, suggests two-third of industrial companies are accelerating deployment of AR to improve worker productivity.
Among the findings, which focused on delivering enhanced methods of training for frontline workers, enabling the workforce optimisation necessary to address the growing skilled labour shortage the industrial sector faces, found that the industrial enterprises are the highest adopters of AR, comprising nearly 60% of the survey responses. Fifty-five per cent of use cases aimed at improving worker productivity focus on delivering instructions and guidance primarily within manufacturing, service, and training environments.
