Snapchat to create augmented reality experiences through Verizon 5G collaboration

A partnership deal has been signed between Verizon and Snapchat creator Snap, where the former’s 5G Ultra Wideband technology will support the Snapchat’s creator’s AR, visual communications, and content experiences.
Under the agreement, both will work as official 5G innovation partners at the telecom giant’s 5G Labs to develop new experiences, such as experiencing live events in newer ways through Snapchat and include premium sponsorship placements within Snap Originals video series.
Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband’s low latency, fast speed and high bandwidth help Snap’s AR innovation grow through advanced applications, including Landmarker tech, which creates location-based entertainment experiences and Portal Lenses that transports fans backstage at a concert and provide spectators exclusive in-stadium experiences directly from their seats during a sporting event.
Last month, Verizon joined hands with SAP to develop enterprise solutions for organisations and developers to accelerate their digital transformation. These solutions use Verizon’s network and platform capabilities integrated with SAP software and services, mainly the SAP Leonardo IoT solution, SAP Edge Services, and analytics, computing and data management capabilities.
In May, Verizon made its NB-IoT network available across the US covering more than 92% of the country’s population. The network benefits from access to lower cost chipsets, superior coverage, and significantly extended battery life. The Network allows developers to handle both IP and non-IP data traffic, and with this ability to manage non-IP data traffic, developers can create simpler and more cost effective IoT-based devices that are suitable for solutions which are not mobile most of the times.
