Sony to Make new PlayStation VR Announcements via State of Play Broadcast
Last year Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) made the shock announcement that it wouldn’t be attending the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2019 – the first time in the event’s history. It then followed this up by cancelling its PlayStation Experience event in December. Whilst citing several reasons why it now looks as though the company is taking a more direct approach for its announcements, revealing a new programme called State of Play.
In a similar fashion to Nintendo Direct, State of Play will give gamers regular updates and information on the world of PlayStation. In a blog statement, Sid Shuman, Social Media Director for SIEA says that: “Our first episode will showcase upcoming PS4 and PS VR software, including new trailers, new game announcements and new gameplay footage.”
The first episode will be a live broadcast taking place next Monday, 25th March at 9pm GMT / 10pm CET, available to watch on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter or Facebook. There will be more episodes running throughout the year, but SIE hasn’t confirmed when these will be, whether that’s weekly, monthly, or simply sporadically over the next few months.
Hopefully, there will be more news on titles like Golem which was due for release last year but never arrived, with information being highly irregular at best. Other videogames VRFocus hopes to hear more of include Blood & Truth and Trover Saves the Universe, and of course plenty of new ones as well.
With SIE taking a back seat when it comes to events and showcasing PlayStation VR, companies like Oculus will hopefully take up the mantel of promoting VR at big shows like the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2019 this week. Oculus has already confirmed it’ll be at E3 2019 this year, marking a return for the company after a three-year hiatus.
As always, VRFocus will keep you informed of all the latest PlayStation VR news and announcements as SIE makes them.
