Superhot VR Made Over $2 Million in the Past Week
Superhot VR has had an impressive run this year, featuring in the top charts for much of the year. The past week has been particularly busy for the first-person shooter hit. Industry consultant and talent scout as well as Superhot director of special projects Callum Underwood announced that the company grossed a whopping $2 million over the past week across all virtual reality platforms:

In April this year, the studio announced that the virtual reality adaptation of the game had generated more revenue than the original PC game version.
For an indie production, the game had done quite well.
The $2 million figure takes into account all the platforms that the virtual reality hit is available on although the PlayStation VR sales numbers are an estimate as the platform is yet to release the relevant sales figures of the game. Underwood however noted that the IndieBI analysts were “confident” about the PSVR figures and the overall sales estimates across all VR platforms.
This is a surprisingly strong performance for a title that was released 3 years ago in December 2016.
The success of SUPERHOT VR is also promising news for the upcoming virtual reality titles such as Half-Life: Alyx that is set to be released in March 2020. Half-Life will be free for Valve Index owners. The Index hardware sold out following the announcement of the game.
The Christmas 2019 season has been a great one for virtual reality with many buying VR headsets as Christmas presents for friends and loved ones. Interest in virtual reality got further momentum with the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx.
The unexpected success of Superhot VR could as well be the signal that VR is finally becoming popular and mainstreaming on its own merit which could further spur virtual reality projects in the coming year.
