‘The Walking Dead Onslaught’ VR Gameplay Revealed Alongside Official Release Date
Step into the shoes of Rick, Daryl, and other fan favorites September 23rd.
Roughly 15 months after its initial reveal, Survios Inc. and AMC today announced the official release date for The Walking Dead Onslaught alongside a brand new gameplay trailer, offering us our first look at the highly-anticipated VR zombie-killing adventure in action.
Arriving on PlayStation VR and PC VR headset September 29th, The Walking Dead Onslaught will have you playing as numerous characters from the show—including Daryl Dixon, Rick Grimes, Carole Peletier, and Michonne Hawthorne—as you chop, slice, shoot, punch, and dismember you way through endless waves of flesh-hungry walkers.
Players begin their journey in the walled-off community of Alexandria shortly after the events of the Savior War. The Walking Dead Onslaught features two primary game modes: Campaign and Scavenger Mode. Playing through the story, players will take on the role of Daryl Dixon has he retells the story of a chance encounter with an elusive stranger.
Scavenger Mode offers players an infinitely replayable experience that will have them running countless supply runs as Rick, Michonne, and Carole in an effort to upgrade their gear as well as the Alexandria safe-zone. Resources and equipment scavenged while in the field can be used to modify and upgrade weapons, unlock new quests, and ultimately rebuild a community ravaged by war.
The Walking Dead Onslaught launches September 29th on PSVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive; just in time for the season 10 finale October 4th on AMC. This digital launch will be followed by a physical release on PSVR October 2nd in Europe and October 13th in North America. The team has also confirmed forward-compatibility with the upcoming PlayStation 5.

- Digital Deluxe Edition: Includes Iconic Show Weapons Pack: Lucille, Rick’s Mace, The Red Machete and Tyreese’s Hammer, Alexandria Crafting Starter Kit, The Walking Dead Onslaught Mini-Soundtrack and Art Book. Additionally, purchases via the PlayStation Store will also receive a special PS4 Theme and Avatar pack.
- Digital Pre-Order Bonuses: Offers exclusive Sheriff Rick and Hunter Daryl character skins, Gold Katana and Gold Knuckle Knife weapon skins, and a pre-purchase discount on participating platforms.
- Retail Editions: Retail Exclusive Deluxe Editions and a limited run Survivor Edition are available at Retail. We’ll have to wait until we can get our hands on the game to say for sure, but the gameplay footage provided appears to show a physics-driven experience similar to that of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.
