Vader Immortal Will Bring ‘Lightsaber Battle’ To The Oculus Quest
ILMxLAB teases lightsaber game mechanics in their upcoming Star Wars VR series.
With this year’s official Star Wars Celebration set to kick off next week in Chicago, the rumor of possible announcements regarding both Star Wars Episode IX and The Mandalorian is in full swing as fans prepare for any new updates surrounding the highly-anticipated film and mysterious new series.
Alongside these major announcements, ILMxLAB and Oculus will also be present, providing new information about their upcoming interactive VR series for the Oculus Quest, Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series.
On Friday, April 12th, ILMxLAB will host an in-depth panel dedicated entirely to Vader Immortal–moderated by Amy Ratcliffe (Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy)–featuring writer and executive producer David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy), director Ben Snow, narrative designer Mohen Leo, and Lucasfilm Story Group creative executive Matt Martin. The group will dive deeper into the creative process of the first installment, as well as the series relation to current Star Wars canon.
Also present on the panel will be Lucasfilm alumn Colum Slevin, who will explain how the project was enhanced by Oculus Quest technology, as well as go deeper into the specifics of ‘lightsaber battle’ on the standalone headset. Previously, little to no information was provided in regards to Vader Immortal’s actual gameplay mechanics or plot; this information is the first confirmation we’ve received of lightsaber-inspired gameplay.
The Vader Immortal panel will take place Friday, April 12th at 11:30am PST on the Celebration Stage at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.
ILMxLAB will be hosting a second panel, Step Into Our Stories, the following day at 2:15pm PST on the Twin Suns Stage. There, Mohen Leo, executive creative producer Mark Miller, senior experience designer Jose Perez III, senior manager of talent and production Julie Peng, and production coordinator Sarah Barrick will be discussing how the studio is expanding the Star Wars universe for fans via virtual and mixed reality technology.
Star Wars Celebration 2019 takes place April 11th – April 15th at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. Monday tickets are still available for purchase.
