Valve Index Expands Sales Locations to Canada and Japan
With Half-Life: Alyx now out in the open, promising to be the big virtual reality (VR) videogame of 2020, there’s a good chance that a few people will buy a VR headset just to play it. With it being a Valve title then the natural choice is the Valve Index, today seeing two more countries where it’s available, Canada and Japan.
This brings the total amount of countries where Valve Index is available to 31 – regions such as Australia and South America are still excluded. The Valve Index hardware can be purchased in a range of combinations depending on the current kit you own (HTC Vive mostly).
The full kit comes in at £919 GBP, so that’s the headset, controllers and SteamVR 2.0 base stations. All three are available individually, allowing HTC Vive owners to upgrade their headset, controllers, or both. But it’s Half-life: Alyx which will likely sway customers into investing in the new hardware.
When Valve made the official reveal yesterday the company noted that any SteamVR compatible headset would support the videogame and that it would retail for £59.99 USD. Unless of course, you own a Valve Index kit, just the headset or just the controllers, making Half-Life: Alyx completely free. Additionally, if customers buy (or already own) any of those combinations before the end of 2019 they get access to several unique bonuses early next year; explore environments from Half-Life: Alyx in your SteamVR Home space, alternate gun skins to embellish Alyx’s arsenal and Half-Life: Alyx-themed content for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
While Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Reality headsets will support Half-Life: Alyx Valve does state: “If you don’t yet own any VR hardware, now’s the time. Headsets support different sets of features, so the experience will vary between them. Half-Life: Alyx was built hand in hand with Valve Index.”
