Vive Studios Partners Synthesis VR for Arcade Distribution of its Titles
Studios specialize in creating content but at the end of the day, they have to get their content to reach a vast audience of users in order to generate revenues and raise their profiles. There are various ways through which VR studios can expand their reach. One obvious one is by ensuring that their content supports all the leading virtual reality headsets currently in the market. They can also do this by capitalizing on some of the leading shop-fronts and ensuring that their content appears in as many sales portals as possible.
Another core content distribution platform is location-based entertainment (LBE). Although VR content is consumed privately or individually by purchasing the right device such as a virtual reality headset, location-based entertainment centers have proven quite popular with many users as they bridge an important market gap by reaching to those who don’t yet own VR headsets. Another winning edge is that they provide a vast portfolio of titles that users would not ordinarily find in a single virtual reality platform.
Vive Studio is partnering with one such content distribution platform. The studio has today announced a partnership with Synthesis VR, an arcade management and location-based virtual reality entertainment platform that will see the studio distribute its content VR management and licensing platform.
Synthesis VR is a dedicated location-based entertainment VR platform geared for virtual reality arcades and was developed to assist virtual reality arcades with both online and offline bookings, customer retention through various custom management features, gift card and membership features while also catering for multiple experiences and capturing and streaming real-time gameplay.
The partnership with Vive Studios will now bring onboard some popular titles like Front Defense and Front Defense: Heroes (created by Fantahorn Studio) to all kinds of entertainment venues through the Synthesis VR system. Both of these titles will present end users with a variety of use-cases within a virtual reality arcade. Front Defense gives players a WWII-era first-person shooter (FPS) game in a single-player campaign. The game was first released in 2017 for the HTC Vive headset and casts the player in the role of an Allied hero who is defending a small town in Europe against an armoured axis onslaught.
In contrast, Front Defense: Heroes provides a multiplayer experience with a 5 vs 5 multiplayer setup and includes various maps that players can fight on and there is even the option to play either as axis or allied powers in the game. The game includes various modes such as Capture the Flag, Defense Mission and the Death March. Unlike Front Defense, Front Defense: Heroes provides a more dynamic gameplay than the former which offers a single-user experience.
Vive Studios has in the past been involved in the publishing of a number of titles such as Arcade Saga, Jam Studio VR, Knockout League, Super Puzzle Galaxy and Operation Apex. All of these titles could be available in the location-based entertainment centers provided by Synthesis VR due to the collaboration.
Apart from this collaboration, Synthesis VR has also partnered with Dutajaya Media where it offers a pay per play (PPP) licensing service to location-based virtual reality operators. It will offer two videos through this platform: Dimensions 13 which is a two to four player co-op as well as a four to six player experience of the same.
