VIVEPORT Infinity Now Supporting Valve Index, Two Month Free Subscription
Through its Vive blog, HTC has today announced that its Viveport virtual reality store will now support the new Valve Index virtual reality headset. Owners of the Index headset can also redeem two free months of access to Viveport Infinity, Viveport’s unlimited subscription service, as part of the launch. This offer will be valid from September 1 and will be applicable to both new and existing subscribers. The two free months will provide users with all the benefits and perks of the Viveport service including access to the premium Viveport Video content as well as purchase discounts.
With the Valve Index support, the Viveport service now offers compatibility for all the major PC VR headsets. The free Infinity membership will also save Index owners hundreds of dollars in subscription fees and game/app purchases as they browse and discover lots of virtual reality apps, games and videos for free. The unlimited subscription normally goes for $12.99 per month or $8.99 per month for a prepaid annual subscription.
The subscription will offer Valve Index members access to hundreds of some of the top-rated virtual reality titles such as Apex Construct, Ninja Legends, Angry Birds VR, A Fisherman’s Tale, I Expect You to Die, Gun Club and Fujii. Lots of new titles are also added to the store every month so Viveport Infinity members can always look forward to evergreen content that they can explore.
However, it is important to keep in mind that not all the apps on Viveport will work with all virtual reality headsets. Check out this link for an overview of the subscription apps. Other headsets that run on Viveport include the Windows Mixed Reality headset and Oculus Rift.
Any Valve Index headset owner who is new to the service or who already has an existing Viveport Infinity membership can sign up for the service throughout the month of September and they will automatically qualify for two months of unrestricted access.
Viveport Infinity is often referred to as the “Netflix VR” although HTC modestly markets the portal as an opportunity that users can take advantage of to explore their favorite apps, videos and games and potentially make purchases of the content in the library that they find interesting.
Earlier this year, HTC had also announce its Vive Reality System which is a virtual reality user guide similar to the Oculus Home which has an Avatar System and a Virtual Home. However, it is not yet known when this software will hit the streets. It could come this September alongside the HTC Vive Cosmos headsets which also land in the market next month.
