VR Horror Into the Radius Hits Steam Early Access in November
It’s the season of scary videogames, whether that’s playing one you already own or investing in something new. Estonian indie developer CM Games revealed its upcoming horror title Into the Radius last month, giving away beta keys for Steam users to test the experience and offer feedback. The team will soon be ready to launch Into the Radius via Early Access, announcing a November date.
The studio confirms the Early Access release will allow players access to several hours worth of content while they continue to complete the story and gameplay features ahead of its planned full release in Q1 2020.
Into the Radius has been inspired by sci-fi novel Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, combines Eldritch horror storytelling with VR’s unique immersive properties. A single-player survival shooter, players will find themselves in the middle of the post-apocalyptic Pechorsk Radius zone, a place where life and death intertwine.
The story is set 15 years after the Pechorsk Event took place, with players taking on the role of a UN Pechorsk Special Committee specialist, one of the few personnel still allowed anywhere near the Radius. Filled with lethal anomalies and hostile forces, gameplay offers realistic bullet physics and classic weapons like the Pistolet Makarova, Double Barrel Shotgun and the AKM Kalashnikov. There will be various ammo types to use with each weapon a well as various attachments.
Featuring a story-driven campaign mode, players will also explore via a free roam mode if they don’t want to do any missions. “The full version will have 15+ hours of playable storyline, taking you to multiple big maps with iconic locations. There will also be more content (including weapons, items, monsters and anomalies) adding more depth to the overall gameplay experience,” states the studio
Into the Radius will be available via Steam Early Access on 6th November, supporting HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Valve Index, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of Into the Radius, reporting back with the latest development updates.
