Vuzix and ST Engineering introduce AI biometric-powered smartglasses platform
US tech firm Vuzix and Singaporean integrated engineering group ST Engineering have introduced an AI biometric-powered smartglasses platform that will enhance productivity of enterprise customers and increase global public safety against the backdrop of rising urbanisation.
The AI biometric-enabled platform, which the companies claim is the world’s first, has been developed as a PaaS (platform as a service) by ST Engineering’s electronics unit. It is a new pay-per-use application combined with Vuzix Blade Smart Glasses that allows hands-free and non-intrusive identification. The enterprise customers in various industries can save costs without the requirement of additional infrastructure or hand-held devices, with the help of this subscription-based smart glasses model.
With the help of this product, customers can customise a variety of applications that includes hands-free scanning of barcodes for efficient cargo loading and delivery, real-time cross-referencing against a central database of criminal offenders and displaying route maps of suspected criminal suspects in the vicinity. Moreover, the solution also helps in situation of frontline emergencies by enabling first responders to efficiently identify causalities or patients and obtain vital information like medical histories of allergies and blood type. This ultimately allows critical medical help by reducing the wait time upon arrival at hospitals.
A couple of months ago, enterprise-centric AR software provider Upskill also introduced its primary product, Microsoft HoloLens for Skylight. Skylight is a software platform that allows frontline industrial workers to interact hands-free. Users of this platform can access to a number of features ranging from multi-window viewing, to hand gestures and head gazing to navigate applications. This platform was also primarily available on Vuzix hardware.
