XR Portal is an Immersive Content Library Specialising in Education
As virtual reality (VR) continues to grow outside the realms of the videogame industry there’s a mounting need for easy access to the wealth of educational content being created. Which is why co-founder and co-organiser of meetup group NonGamingXR, Maryam Sabour, has launched curated content library XR Portal.
XR Portal is an online database of over 500 pieces of immersive content. Emphasising educational experiences, the portal features a collection of 360 videos, VR & AR content, as well as, scientific studies on the effects of XR technology.
Using category filters users can search for content varying from history, climate change, science, mindfulness and mental health. The library pulls content from existing platforms such as Youtube360, Within, and RYOT, as well as hosting content from sources such as university labs, educational sites and indie creators. Additionally, through private licenses, XR Portal can also natively host XR content, with registered users given the option to submit content, and once approved, have a platform to share it widely.
“I’ve witnessed the growth of our Bay Area meet-up scale to over 1800 members, and engaged in endless conversations around the many ways XR is revolutionizing industries outside of gaming,” says Sabour in a statement. “XR’s true value resides in its ability to replicate content that goes beyond gaming, as I’ve had the privilege of exploring across our past 15 meet-ups — training, healthcare, AEC, mindfulness, education and sports are only a few of the many industries XR is having significant impact in today.”
“This is why platforms like XR Portal will drive our industry forward: By enabling access to hundreds of XR experiences focused on educational content, XR Portal is solving the largest pain point for educators, researchers, librarians and others: content curation, navigation and distribution,” she adds.
As an online resource, XR Portal is accessible via existing AR/VR browsers such as those for Oculus, Mozilla’s Firefox Reality browser and Chrome for Daydream. And to help in its endeavour XR Portal has established partners, including LumiereVR and TechRow, with NonGamingXR choosing XR Portal as its official content partner.
